GFA Executive slams Black Stars after AFCON 2025 qualification failure

Samuel Aboabire, a member of the Ghana Football Association's (GFA) Executive Council, has expressed disappointment over the Black Stars’ failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).This marks a historic low for Ghana's senior national team, which finished bottom of Group F with just three points from six matches. The team’s struggles in front of goal have been a major concern, drawing sharp criticism from Aboabire, who also serves as Greater Accra Regional FA chairman.“The Black Stars’ inability to score simple goals contributed to our failure to qualify for the AFCON,” Aboabire told Amansan TV.“These same players score difficult goals for their clubs in Europe. I hope that when they return for the World Cup qualifiers, they will deliver the goals we need.”This is the first time in two decades that Ghana has missed out on AFCON qualification, signalling a critical moment for the team’s development.Attention now shifts to the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, where Ghana will face Chad and Madagascar in March.
