President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has commended Parliament for initiating the "Democracy Cup" competition, a football match aimed at deepening the culture of democracy in Ghana.The President expressed his support for the initiative, stating, "I am excited with this special and excellent initiative...it would deepen and entrench the culture of democracy in the country."He added, "I am in support of this initiative, and I declare my total support for it. I hope it will remain on schedules for years to come."The President emphasized the importance of engaging the youth in democratic processes, noting that "a football match to celebrate 30 years of parliamentary democracy would be an opportunity to bring the youth closer to the works of parliament and also imbibe in them the tenets of democracy."Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, explained that the Democracy Cup match aims to use football to engage the youth and promote democratic culture in Ghana.He invited the President to lead the campaign to make democracy relevant to citizens and to the match.The maiden edition of the Democracy Cup will feature Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko on July 17, 2024, at the Accra Sports...
