African Games: Documents reveal over $3m spent by Sports Ministry

Documents have surfaced online revealing that the Youth and Sports Ministry spent over $3 million on the coverage of the 13th African Games. The payments were distributed among six companies, including PSG, Quality Media Production S.L, The Production Room (TPR), Silicon Productions, GBC 24 hr African Games Channel (Support), and Positive Communication. The payment memo, reportedly signed by GBC Director-General Professor Amin Alhassan, indicates that PSG received 2,056,534 euros, while $1 million went to Quality Media Production S.L., $165,000 to Silicon Productions, and $105,000 to GBC's 24-hour channel. This memo contradicts earlier claims by the Sports Minister, Mustapha Ussif, who stated before the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) that $3 million had been paid directly to GBC for broadcasting the games. Professor Alhassan denied this, stating GBC only received $105,000, sparking further scrutiny. The Youth and Sports Ministry later clarified that $2.5 million was paid directly to GBC in two installments, with an additional $1 million directed to third parties as per GBC's instructions. The revelation has raised questions about the transparency and accuracy of the ministry’s financial disclosures.
