The Minister for Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif, has announced the government's ambitious plan to construct internationally accepted stadiums in every region of Ghana.Ussif disclosed this initiative during his appearance before the Public Accounts Committee earlier this week, where he provided an update on developments within his sector.Currently, only the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi and the Accra Sports Stadium meet the requirements to host international games, though even these venues are limited in their capacity to accommodate certain categories of matches."The government policy is to ensure that every region in Ghana has a modern, internationally accepted stadium," Ussif stated. "We are working on the regions that currently lack these facilities. As and when we secure the necessary funds, you will see us commence these projects to ensure their completion."Since assuming office, the NPP government has constructed approximately 150 AstroTurfs across the country. However, most of these facilities are not equipped to host Ghana Premier League games. The government's new focus on building full-fledged stadiums aims to address this gap and boost sports infrastructure nationwide.
