Gideon Mensah misses out on Ghana squad for AFCON qualifiers due to injury

Defender Gideon Mensah has been left out of Ghana's 23-man squad for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers due to a muscle tear.Ghana coach Otto Addo announced the squad on Thursday at the Ghana FA headquarters in Accra, where he confirmed the Auxerre left-back's injury."Gideon Mensah is out with a muscle tear," Addo stated during the press conference. Mensah is one of several key players missing out, joining Kamaldeen Sulemana and Ernest Nuamah on the sidelines.Despite these absences, the squad features notable names such as Thomas Partey, Mohammed Kudus, Antoine Semenyo, Mohammed Salisu, and Jordan Ayew.Black Stars are set to face Angola at the Baba Yara Stadium on September 5, before travelling to Morocco to take on Niger on September 9.The qualifiers are critical as Ghana aim to secure a spot in the 2025 AFCON, with the top two teams from each group earning automatic qualification.
