AFCON 2025 Qualifiers: Injury blow for Ghana as Alexander Djiku ruled out

Ghana defender Alexander Djiku has been sidelined for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Angola and Niger due to a thigh injury.The 30-year-old Fenerbahce player sustained the injury during his club’s match against Alanyaspor, limping off in the 61st minute.Subsequent scans revealed a Grade One strain in the quadriceps of his right thigh, which will require 10-14 days of recovery, ruling him out of the crucial qualifiers.Djiku was a key part of Otto Addo's 23-man squad for the qualifiers. With his absence, the coach may consider a late replacement, as reports suggest a standby list is in place.Since his debut in October 2020, Djiku has earned 31 caps for the Black Stars, becoming a vital part of the national team setup.His injury presents a significant setback for Ghana as they prepare for these important matches.Ghana will play Angola on September 5 at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi and then five days later face Niger in Morocco.
