Liverpool legend Graeme Souness says Manchester United's young midfielder Kobbie Mainoo is not ripe enough to be a key player for the Red Devils.Mainoo was outstanding during last season's campaign, earning the coach's trust but performances have not ultimately resulted in the outcomes of the team's matches. However, Souness claims the 19-year-old must improve to pass the mark as a regular start for Manchester United."Mainoo has potential, but at Manchester United, there's a tendency to elevate young players to superstar status before they've proven themselves. He should be eased into the team gradually rather than being expected to deliver against top-tier opponents from the outset." Souness told talkSPORTS.Kobbie Mainoo has made a significant impact, particularly with his decisive goal in last season's FA Cup final and his starting role in England's Euro 2024 final loss to Spain. However, Souness warns that the excitement surrounding the young player may be somewhat premature."Right now, Mainoo should be a player coming in and out of a strong squad, rather than being asked to step up consistently against elite competition," he explained.
