Former Ghana international Laryea Kingston has spoken out about the importance of appointing qualified coaches in the Ghana Premier League.He believes nepotism and personal connections are hindering the development of local clubs."The clubs should make sure they hire the right technical persons, not just because, 'Oh, I'm friends with this coach,'" Kingston stated in an interview with Joy Sports.He criticises the practice of coaches lobbying for positions based on connections rather than merit. Kingston argues that some club owners prioritize control over expertise."It's not about the club owners assessing the coach who is capable of doing the job, but because he's my friend, because I can control him, I'll give him that job," he explains. This approach, according to Kingston, allows undue influence on coaching decisions.He suggests that a focus on qualified coaches, not personal connections, would significantly benefit the league.
