StarTimes in talks to resume Ghana Premier League broadcast

StarTimes is reportedly in talks with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to resume broadcasting the Ghana Premier League after their previous deal was terminated due to financial issues. The company, which owes the GFA $995,000, cited fluctuations in the U.S. dollar as the cause of its debt.Despite these challenges, StarTimes has assured the GFA of its commitment to clearing the arrears, requesting six months to settle the amount in full.As part of the new negotiations, StarTimes has increased their contract offer. Under their previous $5.25 million deal signed in 2020, the company struggled with exchange rate issues. The revised agreement ensures the amount will remain unaffected by future currency fluctuations, providing financial stability for the GFA.Reports claim GFA is considering the new terms, setting the stage for StarTimes to soon resume Premier League broadcasts.Their return is expected to enhance the visibility of Ghanaian football and bring innovative broadcasting technology to the league, FA Cup, and Women’s FA Cup.StarTimes’ involvement is also anticipated to attract larger audiences and boost sponsorship opportunities, transforming the way football is consumed in Ghana.
