Senegal FA explains one-star jersey as AFCON ruling controversy deepens

The Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) has issued a statement clarifying concerns over the national team’s new jerseys, which feature only one star, amid the fallout from the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) decision to overturn the 2025 AFCON final.In a communiqué released on March 20, 2026, in Dakar, the FSF explained that production of the current kits began in August 2025 by manufacturers Puma, ahead of the tournament. The federation said manufacturing timelines made it impossible to update the design after events that followed the final.The clarification comes after CAF’s appeals board ruled that Senegal had forfeited the final against Morocco, awarding a 3-0 result in favour of the North Africans. Senegal had originally won the match 1-0 after extra time, but briefly walked off the pitch following a late penalty decision before returning to complete the game.CAF cited competition regulations, stating that a team that refuses to play or leaves the field without the referee’s approval is considered to have lost the match.
