THE EDITOR, Madam: For decades, the Jamaica Labour Party has declared its alignment with “the West”, a stance rooted in Cold War realities when a young Jamaica sought stability through partnerships with Western democracies. That context, however, has drastically changed. Today’s world is defined by shifting global alliances, intensifying geopolitical rivalry, and mounting pressure on small states to take sides in conflicts outside of their control.
