INDECOM reports decline in fatal security force shootings

Fatal shootings by Jamaica’s security forces declined by 14 per cent in the first two months of 2026 compared with the corresponding period last year, according to figures published by the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM). The data show that 48 people were fatally shot by members of the security forces between January and February this year, down from 56 during the same period in 2025. A month-by-month breakdown indicates that 28 people were shot and killed in January 2026, the same number recorded in January 2025.
