Welcome to Meet the Agent, an ongoing series profiling real estate agents from across Canada. With more than 150,000 agents, brokers, and salespeople working in 75 different boards and associations across the country, we thought it was about time they had a place to properly introduce themselves. If you or someone you know deserves the same chance, email agents@storeys.com to apply.THE DETAILSName: Kathy (Katharine) WashingtonAreas of Focus: Anywhere in the Greater Toronto Area, Barrie, and Hamilton areasPersonal Channels: Instagram | Brokerage Website Years of Experience: 1THE INSIGHTSWhere did you grow up?I was born and raised in the Greater Toronto Area. I've lived in several places but have always stayed close to the west end of Toronto. What neighbourhood do you live in now? What neighbourhood (in Canada or worldwide) would you like to live in?I currently live in Mississauga, a suburb of Toronto with a population of just under a million people. It's a culturally diverse and vibrant community. As for where I’d love to live—it's a tough call! With my daughter starting university, we’ll stay rooted here for a while, but in the future, I’d love to have a place here close to my family and another home somewhere warm with a beach. I haven’t figured out where that is yet, but it’s definitely on my mind. What made you want to become a real estate agent?Real estate is my second career. I retired from law enforcement in July 2023 but completed all my real estate courses and obtained my license before retiring. I've always had a passion for real estate—I even started the entry course while pregnant years ago, thinking I’d complete it on maternity leave. That plan didn’t quite work out, but the dream stayed with me. After retiring, I finally had the opportunity to pursue it fully. In a few sentences, describe what a typical "day in the life" looks like for you. Does this align with what you expected before becoming an agent? There’s no such thing as a “typical” day for a real estate agent! My mornings usually start with reviewing listings sent to my clients to stay on top of the market. As a new agent, I spend a lot of time educating myself through videos and reading to ensure I can provide the best advice to my clients. I also focus on finding fresh, creative ways to market myself and my brokerage. It’s definitely a dynamic and rewarding career that keeps me on my toes. What’s the single best advice you have for sellers?Find an agent you trust who comes highly recommended. Selling your home is a big decision, and it should be a positive experience. A great agent will always have your best interests at heart and provide solid, honest advice. What’s the single best advice you have for buyers?Choose an agent you trust and connect with—it’s important to have someone by your side who understands your needs. Buying a home is likely your biggest purchase, so take your time, be patient, and enjoy the journey. I absolutely love helping clients find a home they adore. What made you choose to work with your current brokerage? The choice was easy—I’m very good friends with the agents at my brokerage, even before I became a real estate agent. They’re honest, trustworthy, and always willing to mentor me and answer my questions. Their focus on exceptional customer service aligns perfectly with my values, and I’m proud to be part of a team like this.Who do you think is making the biggest waves in the industry today? Is there anyone you recommend people should be paying attention to?Since joining Sutton, I’ve learned a lot about our CEO, Ross McCredie. His innovative ideas and focus on helping Canadians manage and transact real estate more efficiently are inspiring. He’s leading the way in advocating for homeowners, and I admire his vision for the future of the industry. What is one professional goal you have for the next year? What's one that you have for the next 10 years? My goal for the next year is to grow my client base and equip myself to serve them better. Over the next decade, I’m keeping it simple—I want to be the best agent I can be. As this is my second career, I focus on creating positive experiences for my clients. When I bought my home, my agent was disconnected and uninterested, and that experience drove me to be the exact opposite. I want my clients to remember their journey fondly because of the outstanding service I provided.Tell us about your favourite or most memorable sale?I’ve loved every sale so far. What stands out most isn’t the showings, paperwork, or research—it’s the excitement my clients feel when they walk into a home they love. Being part of that moment, even in a small way, is what makes this career so special to me.The three words I hope my clients use to describe me are:Trustworthy. Patient. Flexible.
