Former union treasurer guilty of fraud sentenced in Picton

A former Prince Edward County staffer guilty of defrauding the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 2275 out of more than $150,000 has been sentenced. Carol Ryan, a former longtime County building inspector and Local 2275 treasurer pled guilty to one count of fraud over $5,000 on Dec. 5, 2024 after she deposited $152,378 in fraudulent cheques into her personal bank account using falsified signatures.  In Picton's Ontario Court of Justice on Wednesday, Justice John Bonn gave Ryan a conditional sentence of two years less a day of house arrest and three years probation.
