POLICE – Axe-swinging, yelling resident apprehended, taken to hospital

The Kamloops RCMP Detachment responded to approximately 288 calls for service from Friday Jan. 24, 2025, to 9 a.m. on Monday Jan. 27. Below are some highlights from those reports. Barricaded person safely apprehended A report of a person running around while yelling and swinging an axe led to a large police presence Friday afternoon. On Jan. 24, 2025, around 2:20 p.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers attended the 2100-block of Young Avenue in response to the report, which involved a person experiencing a mental health crisis. The person was located shortly after on Greenfield Avenue, barricaded inside a residence. The Southeast District Emergency Response Team attended to assist. At about 7:45 p.m., the person surrendered and was safely apprehended under the Mental Health Act, then taken to hospital for medical assessment and care. The investigation is ongoing. Weapons complaint Two people were arrested for mischief and public intoxication in relation to a weapons report received Sunday afternoon. On Jan. 26, 2025, around 2:20 p.m., multiple Kamloops RCMP officers responded to the 700-block of Fortune Drive, where a person was observed with what appeared to be a firearm in an alleyway.
