An apartment on George Street caught fire at approximately 8am on Sunday. Belleville firefighters, police and ambulance responded to the scene. Deputy Fire Chief Mark Shannon said that the apartment’s residents weren’t home when the fire began and a neighbour of the residents noticed the fire. He also said that people were still evacuating the residence when firefighters arrived. A dog and cat were rescued from the fire and no injuries were reported.
