When students come back in September, they will have to deal with new rules for cell phones in Campbell River public schools. At School District 72’s meeting this week Superintendent Geoff Manning says the rules are in line with directives from the province. "Really, what the ministry's aim and goal was, is to create more structured learning time in schools, and reduce the amount of distractions that were happening in our schools," he said. Cell phones and other personal digital devices are no longer allowed at elementary schools, students will need to keep them in their backpacks and will only be able to use them with permission from a teacher or principal. Middle schoolers will be allowed devices, but will only be able to use them with permission from teachers and principals, even during breaks. Secondary school students will be allowed to bring devices and use them during breaks, but not during class without permission.
