Belleville council willing to fully fund barrier devices for special downtown events

An anti-vehicle barrier system will make the implementation of street closures for festivals in downtown Belleville easier. That mechanism was approved by council at its meeting on Monday as part of a staff recommendation to have it be fully funded at $105,000 through the Municipal Accommodation Reserve Fund. Funding was contingent on receiving the remaining uncommitted amount of $50,000 through the Emergency Preparedness Fund grant. The city grant application was denied, which forced staff to pivot and have its purchase be fully funded by the MAR Fund.
