RCMP charge BC woman with terrorism

RCMP say a 51-year-old woman has been charged with terrorism-related offenses which stem from an ongoing criminal investigation.   Police say Kimberly Polman, from Squamish, was being investigated after allegations she left Canada to travel to Syria in 2015 to join ISIS.   According to a media release, Polman has been charged with participating in the activity of a terrorist group, and faces two charges under the Canadian Criminal Code.  RCMP say she was repatriated to Canada in Oct. 2022 and was placed under a series of bail conditions.  Pacific region RCMP superintendent Jag Dhot says they take matters of this nature very seriously and use every measure to ensure a complete and fair investigation.   “The success of the investigation is directly attributable to the work done by our dedicated investigators and the strength of our policing and intelligence partnership,” he says. “Policing partners, local communities and families are all key in the successful identification, prevention and disruption of terrorist activities, as well as individual disengagement from violent extremism.”   The investigation was done in collaboration with the RCMP’s Federal Policing Integrated National Security Enforcement Team, as well as Canadian and international partners.  Polman is expected to make her next appearance in a Vancouver provincial court on Aug. 2.  The post RCMP charge BC woman with terrorism  appeared first on My Cowichan Valley Now.
