ELECTION ’24 – New Democrats pick candidate in Kamloops-N. Thompson

A human service advocate will represent the BC NDP in Kamloops-North Thompson in the October provincial election. Riding resident Rick Turner announced today (Aug. 21, 2024) that Maddi Genn will be acclaimed as the party’s candidate at a nomination meeting Sept. 8. “We are proud to have Maddi represent the party in Kamloops-North,” said Turner. “With her training and passion for social justice, she will represent the people of this constituency well in Victoria.” Genn grew up in Salmon Arm, moving to Kamloops in 2016 to attend Thompson Rivers University where she completed a Human Services Diploma. Since graduating, she has been working one-on-one with at-risk youth and working with her union as a health and safety representative and chairperson. She recently started a NextGen committee dedicated to ensuring that new and young workers have the tools they need to be successful at work. “I have seen and I understand firsthand the struggles people and families have securing affordable housing and making ends meet,” Genn said. “I’m proud of the work David Eby and his government have completed and I know there is much more to be done.” She said her goal is to make Kamloops and the North Thompson [...]
