Infrastructure projects to get more than $156 million from federal government

Infrastructure projects are getting a big boost, as the federal government transfers over $156 million to BC. The federal government says they’re transferring the money for the first payment of the 2024-2025 fiscal year, with the goal of helping communities invest in local infrastructure priorities. Federal Minister of Housing, Infrastructure and Communities Sean Fraser says investing in infrastructure is essential in building more affordable, inclusive, and stronger communities. The funding comes through the Canada-Community Building Fund, which provides communities with funding across 19 categories including drinking water, wastewater, public transit, and community energy systems. They say British Columbians will get more than $1.6 billion through the funding for the next five years, all as part of a renewed agreement between the federal government and provincial government. One more payment will be made to BC, and it’s expected to take place before the fiscal year wraps up.
