Charity event raises over $1 million for Nanaimo District Hospital Foundation

Cardiac Care north of the Malahat just got better with a donation of over one million dollars to the Nanaimo District Hospital Foundation.  The donation was obtained from the Tom Harris Community Foundation, when a historic milestone was achieved marking the first time an amount of this significance was raised in a single day for health care.  According to the foundation donors were shown a video highlighting the urgent need for new cardiology equipment at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital, which rapidly garnered support from all in attendance.  “The presentation prompted rapid individual donations in addition to contributions from sponsorships and foursomes’ entries,” the foundation says. “This resulted in a record-breaking single-day total of $1 million.”  Foundation chair Tony Harris says they’re appreciative of the donation and the message conveyed to the community has left a positive impact.  “We are deeply humbled to have become one of the largest charitable events in the history of Vancouver Island and to know that our philosophy and message resonates,” he says. “The impact we have working together is profoundly greater than the sum of our respective parts.”   Nanaimo District Hospital Foundation chair Barney Ellis-Perry says reaching such a significant milestone will greatly benefit health care, and how it is delivered to all residents.  “I’m continually inspired by what our community's collective goodwill can accomplish,” he says. “We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Tom Harris Community Foundation for their transformative donation toward our cardiac care needs.”  According to a media release, since 2018 the Tom Harris Community Foundation has donated over $2.5 million providing grants and donations to 36 charities supporting more than 50 causes.  The post Charity event raises over $1 million for Nanaimo District Hospital Foundation  appeared first on My Cowichan Valley Now.
