VIU commits to review sourcing and investment policies with new task force

Vancouver Island University’s boss is committing to follow through on some of the demands from protesters, after the camp was removed last weekend. In an open letter to the VIU community, President and Vice-Chancellor Deborah Saucier says she will create a task force to advise the board on ethical and sustainable investment and sourcing. It will include students and employees. She says she will also create a committee to help VIU manage protests, campus security, and related interactions. It will include faculty, students, and administrators. Both committees will have a call for membership in September. The pro-Palestine encampment at VIU started on May 1 and lasted for 110 days. It was the last protest camp in Canada to be dispersed, after VIU was granted a court injunction to have it removed.
