Amid laying numerous charges last weekend, OPP feel impaired driving is ‘serious crime’

The Ontario Provincial Police have released their figures from the Civic Holiday Long Weekend. More than 8,000 charges were laid during a traffic safety campaign across the province from Friday through Monday -- nearly half of those were for speeding, while others were for not wearing a seatbelt, impaired driving and for racing or stunt driving. Meantime, the OPP is urging impaired driving to be treated like a 'serious crime' with nearly 1,500 charges laid so far in 2024 in the Central Region.
