RCMP increase patrols while promoting public safety and awareness

With several events, and another long weekend underway RCMP say they’ll be increasing patrols to ensure public safety.  According to police, land and water routes will be observed while they crack down on driving infractions, educate members of the public on water safety and why combining alcohol and boating aren’t a good combination.  They say there are a lot of myths associated with consuming alcohol and using drugs while operating motor vehicles that need to be addressed.  “One of the myths is that drivers believe they drive better after a few drinks,” they say. “Having a few drinks will affect a person’s judgement and reaction negatively.   “Oher myths are you can have one drink per hour, or you can drink a cup of coffee to sober up, these are all false.”  When it comes to water safety, police say education is the best protection if people decide to take advantage of the lakes and rivers around Vancouver Island.  “Many drowning instances we have seen over the years have been a result of fatigue and being too far from shore,” they say.   According to police, one in three collisions involve alcohol and one in 10 drivers after 10 p.m.  The post RCMP increase patrols while promoting public safety and awareness  appeared first on My Campbell River Now.
