Real-time bus location technology now available, BC Transit

BC Transit says a new system is being adopted in the Salt Spring system, which will have updated technology to improve the rider’s experience on the regional system.  Updates to mobile devices will allow riders to get real-time data on locations, track and monitor bus routes, as well as increase the comfort and convenience for anyone using the NextRide system.   BC Transit says the update and launch of NextRide will be more user-friendly and will provide a more interactive platform, making traveling across the island easier and more efficient.  “By downloading the Transit App, customers will know exactly when their bus will arrive,” they say. “The upgrade provides riders an upgrade to the existing version of the app, including a real-time bus tracking, a view of the full transit schedule, and interactive features.”  BC Transit says the upgrade is being funded through the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program, with the federal government contributing 50 per cent of the cost, the province covering 40 per cent and local municipalities contributing the remaining 10 per cent.  BC Transit adds the goal is to not only improve the customer experience, but also grow ridership by making transit more accessible, safer, and enjoyable.  The total cost for the project is $16.8 million.  The post Real-time bus location technology now available, BC Transit appeared first on My Cowichan Valley Now.
