Bethel Huntsville honouring first responders

A local church is coming together for the second time to thank our area’s emergency services. Bethel Huntsville will host its second annual free first responder appreciation event this Saturday at 35 Silverwood Dr. from 12 to 2 p.m. Ted Leck, the lead church minister and chaplain with the fire department, says this year they are doing an optional fundraiser for the family of Stephan Laurence. A year ago, he was diagnosed with a brain tumour, and he passed away this July,” shares Leck. “We just want to stand behind our first responders and also use it as an opportunity to support this awesome Laurence family.” Leck says he sees what first responders go through and how they bring stability and show up in some people's worst days. “I think it's just really good for us as a community to rally around our first responders, our heroes in our community here and just cheer them on,” says Leck. He says the event is packed with activities for all members of the family. Leck adds The Ministry of Natural Resources will also be there to talk about wildfire prevention. “We have two big blow-up castle things. One is a castle for kids to play, and another one is a 50-foot obstacle course for kids to run against,” he continues. “We're having barbecues and cotton candy. It's all covered by our church.” Leck says this is an opportunity for kids to “rub shoulders” with the OPP, EMS and fire responders and to build bridges with emergency services all while checking out the many vehicles they use. He says this event “plants the seed” for the youngsters to be inspired to become first responders one day. The post Bethel Huntsville honouring first responders appeared first on My Muskoka Now.
