Mary Jibb took part in four events at the 2024 Summer Paralympics in Paris, France and reached the medal round in three of them. The Bracebridge swimmer competed in the 100m backstroke, freestyle, and butterfly races along with the 200m individual medley. The 17-year-old qualified for the finals for the backstroke, individual medley, and butterfly finishing fifth, seventh, and eighth, respectively. Jibb also achieved a personal best in backstroke when she finished with a time of 1:12.33 in the medal race. She trains with the Muskoka Aquatic Club out of the Bracebridge Sportsplex. "Mary’s dedication, hard work, and passion for swimming are truly shining through on the world stage," it says in a post on the club's Facebook page. Jibb was joined in Paris by her family, including her dad, Darcy, who was part of a video involving a handful of residents wishing her well. “She was given many obstacles along the way,” he said, noting how his daughter had a stroke when she was younger. “She just pushed through them.” The post Bracebridge swimmer finishes first Paralympics appeared first on My Muskoka Now.
