Study finds downtown businesses lost over $450,000 to ‘safety and security issues’

A study looking at safety and security in downtown Duncan has wrapped up and the findings are ready to be presented by the Downtown Duncan Businesses Improvement Area Society. The DDBIA says in a media release that their Safety and Security Benchmark Study surveyed 150 of their members and found that 71% of them felt increased fear, anxiety, or stress because of street disorder.   “These survey findings tell the real, statistically reliable story of the safety and security of our downtown,” said DDBIA Executive Director Katherine Devine.  They add that the study found their members collectively lost just over 450 thousand dollars in the past year “due to safety and security issues in downtown Duncan".   The DDBIA will present the findings to the public on September 12th from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm and on September 16th from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm at the Cowichan Community Centre. If you’d like to attend, you are asked to RSVP to Connor Tanton at tanton@downtownduncan.ca  The post Study finds downtown businesses lost over $450,000 to ‘safety and security issues’ appeared first on My Cowichan Valley Now.
