Vancouver Island Crisis Society joins global movement aiding in suicide prevention

A public forum is being held in Nanaimo to help raise awareness around suicide prevention, provide needed resources and open dialogue about mental health.  The event will be put on alongside World Suicide Day and will host film screenings focused on Equine Facilitated Wellness, a community walk through Maffeo Sutton Park and a bubble release activity.  The Vancouver Island Crisis Society says they’re making sure to cover as much as they can by changing the narrative.  “This year’s theme calls for action to break the silence surrounding suicide and mental health,” the society says. “The event is designed to foster understanding, reduce stigma, and create a safe space for individuals to share their stories and seek support.”  The event will be on Sept. 8, 2024, at the Conference Room at the Best Western Dorchester Hotel, starting at 1:00 p.m., and the society says everyone is invited to join the global movement to make a difference.  Vancouver Island Crisis Society is a resource for the community, which provides crisis support, education and suicide prevention advocacy.  The post Vancouver Island Crisis Society joins global movement aiding in suicide prevention  appeared first on My Campbell River Now.
