Muskoka Lakes Firefighters recognized during service awards ceremony

The Muskoka Lakes Fire Department hosted their annual Fire Service Awards Ceremony yesterday (Thursday), celebrating them and their commitment to the community. District Chief Rick Gonneau and Chris Vasey were awarded both the Provincial Fire Services Long Service Medal and the Municipal Long Service award. The medal along with subsequent service bars are available to those who have achiefed a minimum twenty-five years of service, with the municipal award given to those who served as volunteer firefighters for 30 plus years. Pins and awards were also handed out to nearly 20 other fire fighters. Fire Chief Ryan Murrell says he's proud to work with an amazing team of people who go above and beyond to serve the community every day. Provincial Fire Services Long Service Medal The Provincial Fire Services Long Service Medal is an expression of public appreciation for the dedication and hard work of Ontario firefighters. This long service medal and subsequent service bars are available to those who have achieved a minimum of twenty-five years in suppression, training, public education, inspections, and communications. 35 Years District Chief Rick Gonneau 45 Years District Chief Chris Vasey CVFSA Municipal Long Service Award The Municipal Long Service Award Medal is presented to Firefighters who have served as volunteers of Canadian municipal government towns and villages for 30 plus years. District Chief Chris Vasey – 45 years District Chief Rick Gonneau – 35 years Township of Muskoka Lakes Fire Service Pins 5 Years Firefighter Alex Rieger Firefighter Alexander Shishis Firefighter Jared Willans Firefighter Mary Lee Firefighter Michael Thompson Firefighter Riley Fry Firefighter Taylor Downing 10 Years Firefighter Agata Borucz Captain Kris Kerrigan 15 Years Captain Spencer Dewasha Firefighter Don Braizer Firefighter Ian Davidson Firefighter Chris Bates Fire Chief’s Awards Prevent Harm Award - this award is presented to the Muskoka Lakes Firefighter that has achieved the highest attendance to all emergency incidents. This award was presented to: Firefighter Gavin Courvoisier. Survive Award - this award is presented to the Muskoka Lakes Firefighter that has the highest participation at training. This award was presented to: Firefighter and Training Officer Steve McHale Be Nice Award - this award is presented to the Muskoka Lakes Firefighter that has participated in the most public and life safety education programs. This award was presented to: Firefighter Ashleigh Martin. Charlie Cameron Memorial Award This award is presented in the honour of former Fire Chief Charlie Cameron, the first fire coordinator for Muskoka Lakes. The Charlie Cameron Award is presented to a firefighter who has maintained good attendance, operates in a calm, cool manner, develops others, participates in the community, and has gained the respect of fellow firefighters.
