One lucky person will get to take home a hand-carved Indigenous-themed paddle, but only if they’re successful in the Indigenous Policing Services Name the Canoe contest. According to the police, the paddle was designed and donated by Kevin Paige, and with the contest open to people of all ages, the canoe will be used for outreach with schools, youth groups, families and partnership agencies. Anyone interested in participating in the contest should send their name suggestions to Jeremy Evans with the North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP by Sept. 30.
