The Ondo State Police Command has apprehended a suspect, Temidayo Fadahunsi, over allegations of mobile phone theft in the Ijoka area of Akure, the state capital.According to police reports, a complaint about stolen phones was lodged at a nearby police station, prompting an investigation that led to Fadahunsi’s arrest.Speaking at the command’s headquarters in Akure on Saturday, Commissioner of Police, Wilfred Afolabi, revealed that a search of the suspect’s residence uncovered 228 Android phones, along with various phone batteries and foreign SIM cards.“On February 6, 2025, we received a report of a case of theft. Acting on credible intelligence, our officers arrested Temidayo Fadahunsi, 25, in the Ijoka area. A subsequent search of his residence led to the discovery of 228 Android phones, 156 assorted batteries, and 23 foreign SIM cards, none of which he could provide a satisfactory explanation for,” Afolabi stated.He further confirmed that investigations were ongoing, and the suspect would face legal proceedings once inquiries were concluded.Police Capture Wanted KidnappersIn addition to the phone theft case, the Ondo State Police Command announced the arrest of several individuals suspected of involvement in kidnapping incidents across the state.The arrested suspects were identified as Aminu, Abdullahi Abubakar, Yusuf Saidu, Nafiu Ibrahim, Mohammed Anas, Kabiru Mohammed, Yusuf Suleiman, and Ishaku Abdul, a former inmate recently released from prison.Afolabi disclosed that Aminu was apprehended on February 13, 2025, at Akure Garage in Ikare Akoko following intelligence gathering and technical surveillance. His arrest led to the subsequent capture of Abdullahi Abubakar, while further operations between February 14 and 15 resulted in the apprehension of additional suspects, including Yusuf Saidu, Nafiu Ibrahim, Mohammed Anas, and Kabiru Mohammed.Woman Rescued from Kidnappers in IpeleIn a separate operation, security operatives, assisted by local youth, rescued a woman who had been abducted from her home in Ipele. During the intervention, officers recovered an AK-49 rifle at the scene.“Through intelligence-driven efforts, one of the suspects, Yusuf Suleiman, was arrested in connection with the abduction,” Afolabi confirmed.Ex-Convict Arrested for Alleged Criminal ActivitiesThe police commissioner also announced the arrest of Ishaku Abdul, a recently released ex-convict suspected of engaging in fresh criminal activities in his community.“The Special Anti-Kidnapping Squad, acting on credible intelligence, apprehended Ishaku Abdul at Aladura Camp, Oke-Oge, Osi, in Akure North Local Government, an area that has seen an increase in kidnapping cases,” Afolabi stated.He assured that all suspects, who had been on the police wanted list, would be charged in court following the completion of investigations.
