Mamelodi Sundowns To Fly Out To Europe For Pre-season Tour

South Africa's Premier Soccer League (PSL) champions Mamelodi Sundowns‘ pre-season plans look set to take them to Austria in Europe ahead of the 2024/25 campaign. Sundowns players are currently on vacation having been spotted across various holiday destinations after a daunting 2023/24 campaign that has seen them play over 55 matches. It was all worth it in the end, as they wrapped up an unprecedented seventh consecutive league crown as well as the inaugural African Football League (AFL). The team had little time to rest and unwind this past campaign, participating in more than six different competitions, including those that did Bafana Bafana duty at the 2023 African Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast. According to iDiski Times, Sundowns will start their pre-season for 2024/25 on 1 July, with a trip to Austria on the cards in July for the domestic league record-breakers. Rulani Mokwena’s men, who were in the Netherlands last year, are expected to leave the country in the second week of July, as the first week of next month will be used for medicals and some tests. Sundowns is currently the most successful football club in the South African PSL era. They won the 2016 CAF Champions League, 2017 CAF Super Cup and were voted the 2016 CAF Club of the Year. Domestically, they have also won the Nedbank Cup six times, the MTN 8 four times and the Telkom Knockout four times. They are the first South African team to compete in the FIFA Club World Cup, where they finished in 6th place. In 2021, Sundowns became the first club in Africa to win both CAF Champions League and CAF Women's Champions League titles. In 2023, Sundowns was crowned the champions of the first African Football League (AFL). Sundowns is owned by South African business magnate and current CAF president, Patrice Motsepe, and is one of the most valuable clubs in Africa, by market value.
