Ondo Assembly summons LG Administrators to account for 6 months allocation

The Ondo State House of Assembly on Thursday summoned the administrators of the 18 local government areas of the  state to account for the financial  allocations received in the last six months.The Deputy Speaker, Prince Abayomi Akinruntan, APC/ Ilaje Constituency 1, who moved the motion, asked the assembly to rise to its constitutional duties of checkmating the financial activities of the local government in the state.Akinruntan said that there was need to ensure that funds being released and being spent were accounted for. Hon. Japhet Toyin, APC/ Akoko-North East, who seconded the motion, said that transparency and accountability at the grassroots would address hunger being expressed in the country.The 26 lawmakers of the House of the Assembly  unanimously through a voice vote agreed to the motion.The Speaker of the House of Assembly, Chief Olamide Oladiji, therefore, directed  the Clerk of the assembly, Mr Benjamin Jayeola,  to write a letter to that effect in directing the administrators to  come on or before Friday, Aug. 16, to appear before the assembly.In another vein, Oladiji asked youths in the country to shun violence, saying that no meaningful development could be achieved in the midst of tumult. He asked the youths to give room for dialogue, asking traditional rulers and religious leaders and public spirited leaders to appeal to the youths to allow dialogue for the resolution.The speaker enjoined  Nigerian youths  to embrace agriculture in tackling agriculture, asking government to make agriculture attractive to the youths.According to him, security architectures should be more structured so that people can partake in farming.He asked  the 36 governors in the federation to support President Bola  Tinubu in cushioning  the effect of the hardship.Also speaking,the  Majority Leader, Hon. Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi, APC- Owo 1, said that it was a great matter of concern, asking youths to exercise patience for  peace to reign despite unpleasant situation in the country. He appealed to everyone to give the country’s leaders especially President Bola Tinubu , more time, adding that with more patience, the policies of the current administration would yield good results. According to him, youths should not allow themselves to destroy the nation’s assets  but be used as tool to reshape the country.The majority leader asked Nigerian youths to toe the way of peace and avoid a path of war. In his contribution, Hon. Tope Agbulu, PDP/Akoko South-West Constituency  2, commended youths in the state for not allowing themselves to be used to create more problems in the society.Agbulu asked that legislative arm in all tiers of government  to perform its constitutional duties appropriately and ensure a vibrant democracy, stating that a poor legislature would create bad governance.He said that the legislature should checkmate executive arm of government for good governance, asking the state legislature  to checkmate the executive,  explaining that bad governance started from the executive. Also , Chief Olatunji Oshati, APC/Ose Constitunecy said that the nation’s president really meant well for the country.Oshati asked the President Bola Tinubu-led government to make public its achievements and liabilities it inherited. He lauded the state governor, Mr Lucky Aiyedatiwa, for  putting  in place mechanisms to avert protest in the state.Oshati also commended the Senior  Special Assistant on Students Affairs  to the state Governor, Mr Solomon Olaolu , for organizing series of stakeholders’ meeting to dialogue with the youths in the state.Oshati, who also appreciated youths in the state for their perseverance and for embracing peaceful dialogue, said that the purpose of the protest must have got to the presidency, believing that there would be improvement in governance in soonest. Also speaking, Hon. Rotimi Abitogun, APC-Akure South  Constituency 2, asked Nigerian authorities to discourage brutalisation  of peaceful protest because it would portray the country bad in sight of the international communities.Abitogun said that the Tinubu-led administration inherited some liabilities that might take some time to address , asking Nigerians to show a sense of reasoning to the administration.He said that rolling out palliatives might not cushion the hardship in the country but urged government at all levels to roll out programmes such as agricultural initiatives  that would tackle hunger in the country.
