OAUSTECH to Ondo Govt: Our abandoned projects needs urgent funding

Prof. Temi Ologunorisa, Vice Chancellor, Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH), Okitipupa, have appealed to the Ondo State government to release funds to complete abandoned projects in the institution. He made this appeal on Friday in Okitipupa, during the Ondo State House of Assembly Committee on Tertiary Institutions' oversight visit to the institution.Ologunorisa, urged the committee to appeal to Gov. Lucky Aiyedatiwa to ensure the speedy completion of the Maritime Academy at Ugbo-Nla by the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC)He, also appealed to Gov. Aiyedatiwa to establish the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, like the Federal Government, to harness the state's vast coastal resources.According to him, the National Universities Commission's (NUC) have just approved new programmes, including Petroleum and Gas Engineering, Chemical Engineering, and others, starting in the 2024/2025 academic session."We are making these appeals because of the need for more infrastructure to accommodate the increasing student population, as our institution have become a preferred institution for admission seekers," Ologunorisa said.He, requested the release of the N1 billion allocated in the 2024 budget to complete the iconic School of Science Building, abandoned for many years. Ologunorisa, also called on OSOPADEC and Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to complete the abandoned student hostels in the institution.The Vice-Chancellor, however, appreciated Aiyedatiwa for prompt payment of monthly subvention and the wage award to OAUSTECH. He, however, urged the governor to intervene in the NDDC and OSOPADEC abandoned projects in the institution and ensure the contractor handling the 2.5 kilometer road construction in the university to returns to site.While responding, Hon. Chris Ayebusiwa, Chairman, House Committee on Tertiary Institutions commended the Vice Chancellor for his good work in the institution.He assured that decisive actions would be taken to complete the OSOPADEC and NDDC projects in the university. Hon. Messiah Oluwatoyin, also promised to appeal to the governor to ensure OSOPADEC complete the Maritime Academy at Ugbo-Nla and other requests. (NAN)
