The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General YD Ahmed, has commended the Corps members who played a crucial role in the successful conduct of the Ondo State governorship election.The DG, who monitored the election activities across the state along with other senior management officials, expressed his appreciation for the dedication and professionalism shown by the Corps members. He was represented by the Director of Corps Welfare and Health Services, Mr. Omotade Ayodele Folorunso Benjamin, who conveyed the DG’s message.Brig. Gen. Ahmed noted that the composure and sense of duty displayed by the Corps members during the election process were a testament to their commitment, stating that it gives hope for the future of the country.Having visited several wards and polling units in the Akure and Ondo zones, the NYSC DG expressed his satisfaction with the conduct of the Corps members, emphasizing that they upheld the values of the scheme."From the outset, I was confident that our Corps members would perform admirably, but there is always an element of uncertainty until the task is completed. You have all excelled beyond expectations, and I extend my gratitude on behalf of the entire NYSC family for your outstanding service," he said.He praised the Corps members for maintaining the integrity of the NYSC throughout the election process, which has further strengthened the partnership between the scheme and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).While noting the overall success of the election across all eighteen Local Government Areas, Brig. Gen. Ahmed acknowledged a few isolated incidents where hoodlums attempted to disrupt proceedings.In his evaluation of the overall conduct of the election, the Chief Corps Welfare Officer criticized the actions of some security personnel who failed to respond adequately during clashes instigated by local troublemakers, urging for better coordination in future assignments.
