...As IGP Implements Other Strategies to Tackle Crimes Operatives continue to strive as police record the arrest of 307-armed robbery suspects, 296 kidnapping suspects, 301 homicide suspects, 176 rape/defilement suspects, and 204 suspected cultists, recovers 284 firearms, 6702 ammunition of various calibres, 107 vehicles and rescues 97 victims in the space of 6 weeks.ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Force PRO revealed this today in Abuja while parading 35 suspects who were arrested for various criminal offences."1 AK-49 rifle with magazine, Sledge Hammer, Car Jack, 2 Chisel, Small Hammer, and one Hiace Bus. Similar operations to mop up illegal arms and ammunition in circulation in the country, led to the recovery of 4 AK- 47 rifles, 5 magazines and 107 rounds of live ammunition of various caliber during their operations". he saidHe said that the Nigeria police in more operations also apprehended a notorious robbery syndicate operating in the Jos-North/Jos South region of Plateau State, putting an end to their streak of nefarious activities. ACP Adejobi said one of the cases is a syndicate of 16 members, 9 of whom are involved in stealing motorcycles and tricycles around Jos Metro, parading themselves as Police Officers using a fake ID and illegally confiscating motorcycles and tricycles from motorists.Working on credible intelligence, operatives of the FID-IRT made the arrest of 15 suspects who all constituted a notorious syndicate of robbers, specialized in the theft and robbery of motorcycles and tricycles. The First four (4) members of the syndicate, Suleiman Mohammed, Abubakar Salisu, Jerry Irimiya and Adam Mohammed are residents of Jos North LGA, Plateau State. These suspects are particularly involved in moving around at late night and picking up any tricycle they see parked without supervision. They also move around, stopping motorcyclists they see on the road, parading themselves as police officers with fake ID cards and accusing the motorists of late-night movements, proceeding to confiscate their bikes and telling them to go to any division nearest to them to retrieve the bikes. So far, they have stolen several motorcycles which they have given to the receiving group in their syndicate. The next group in the syndicate is that of Zaidu Inusa, Zaharadeen Abdulkarim and Nankap Nimsak. This group also specializes in the stealing of Tricycles that are parked in any place free of supervision and has successfully stolen several Tricycles and motorcycles. The last group in the syndicate involved in the stealing of these Keke and motorcycles is the group of Abdulateef Abdulganiyu and Nuhu Hassan. Abdulateef had been single-handedly stealing bikes before meeting Nuhu Hassan who then joined him in carrying out this crime. Nuhu Hassan on the other hand, confessed to having been caught stealing before, which had led to him being beaten severely resulting in partial body paralysis. But that did not stop him from committing the same crime a while later. The rest of this syndicate are the receivers of these stolen Bikes and Keke, who specialize in taking these stolen items and selling them off to buyers. Upon arrest, the IRT operatives recovered 8 motorcycles and 11 Tricycles"Other cases include the arrest of a notorious robber specialized in robbing houses and making away with money and valuables, particularly gold, and the arrest of a group of metal scavengers who smuggle valuables buried under refuse."Under the leadership of the conscientious Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun has continued to make giant strides in the fight against every form of crime and criminality in the country, and guaranteeing the safety of the country’s citizens. The Nigeria Police Force under the present leadership has been committed to executing its statutory mandate as enshrined in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and to this end, the Inspector-General of Police has reasserted his dedication to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens. We urge citizens to give their maximum cooperation and support, in order to have a society where crime is at its barest minimum. The IGP has taken bold steps towards the implementation of some policies and anti-crime strategies to curb crimes and criminality in Nigeria. These strategies emplaced at all levels of policing structure in Nigeria are paying off. Recently, the IGP has ordered the immediate commencement of tactical training for personnel of the Special Intervention Squad (SIS), in partnership with our foreign partners, which is ongoing at the Police College, Ikeja. Also, the IGP has ordered Commissioners of Police at their various state command levels to organize weekly training for all officers and men in their command, and these run through the year to help improve service delivery of our officers on the field. The IGP commends officers and men of the NPF for their commitment and agility towards achieving this great feat. Furthermore, with the zeal of the IGP and the present leadership of the NPF to support the government in the fight against money laundering, the IGP has recently established the Anti-Money Laundering unit at the Force Headquarters headed by CP Hycenth Edozie Azuka, to leverage the already existing working relationship between the Police and other anti-graft agencies, also in line with Interpol mandate to curb terrorism financing and international crimes amongst its member states. The IGP has carefully selected trained financial and cybercrime experts to dominate the unit for efficiency and effectiveness. In the same vein, the Nigeria Police Force has taken the bull by its horns to amplify the efforts of the Federal Government in combatting oil theft and economic sabotage. Recently, the IGP appointed a new commander to head the IGP-STFPIB (Anti-Pipeline) unit of the Force, restructured the squad and renewed its standard operating procedure, with a clear marching order to harness all available means within the ambit of the law to curb oil theft in collaboration with other relevant security agencies. The Nigeria Police Force under the present leadership has been committed to executing its statutory mandate as enshrined in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeriawww.twitter.com/spyetv
