Ondo CP, Abayomi visits camp, urges corps members to be law abiding

The Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command, CP Abayomi Peter Oladipo, has advised corps members not to undermine the integrity of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Scheme during the forthcoming gubernatorial election in the state. The Commissioner of Police made the statement while addressing 2024 Batch 'B' (Stream 1) corps members at the Multipurpose Hall of the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Ikare-Akoko.He warned the corps members not to allow anyone to use them for dirty deals during the election coming up in November and urged them to be law-abiding.The Lagos born Police Officer who earned LLB (Hons) degree after his first and second degrees from Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye and University of Lagos, Akoka respectively said that corps members would be active players during the election and should play the game according to the rules and guidelines from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).CP Abayomi, who participated in the mandatory national service in Imo State as a corps member, declared that the National Youth Service Corps is established primarily for integration and to unite the country in its diversity.The Security Chief who is described as an international Police Officer, having served in United Missions in Kosovo, Sudan and Darfur among many global assignments disclosed that in spite of security challenges worldwide, the police is there to protect the corps members. He asserted that the members of the service corps are in a safe environment in the Sunshine State as he hinted that the Police, in collaboration with other security and intelligence agencies in the state are working round the clock to ensure that the peaceful atmosphere in the state is sustained for the security benefit of all and sundry. The CP who has attended value added courses that distinguished him as a unique and seasoned officer assured corps members of their safety and security in all the 18 Local Governments of the state.He announced that his office has tasked the Divisional Police Officers (DPO) and Area Commanders to intensify monitoring of Corps Lodges and residential buildings occupied by corps members within their jurisdiction, and encouraging the corps participants not to misuse the privilege the Constitution has placed on them.He charged them to notify their colleagues of their movements and alert the security personnel of any security challenge or breach which may put them in harm's way.CP Abayomi, who was the pioneer Operations Commander of Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) when it was established enjoined the corps members to believe in the Nigeria project, saying that the citizens have no other country to call their own than Nigeria. The State Coordinator, Mr. Sam Amaramiro Pepple while welcoming the CP who he described as a brother and personal friend, to the camp, said that his visit was an assurance to the corps members that they are safe in the Sunshine State. The State Coordinator who disclosed the disciplined nature of his children, the corps members to the Police Chief said that he was proud of them and convinced beyond any doubt that they would not disappoint the Scheme during the forthcoming gubernatorial election. Pepple thanked his guest for the visit and sought more coverage and surveillance for members of the service corps wherever they are posted within the state.The corps members entertained the guest and his entourage with Eyo Masquerade while the State Coordinator presented gifts to CP Abayomi for the love he has shown the Scheme in the State.
