The ranks of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State swelled yesterday as Hon. Ologun Adebukola Thaddeus Blessing, former Assistant State Treasurer and prominent spokesman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), formally defected to the ruling party.Ologun, alongside other political heavyweights from the PDP, Social Democratic Party (SDP), and Action Alliance (AA), joined the APC under the platform of Nigeria Workstation, a political coalition led by former PDP spokesman, Hon. Kennedy Ikantu Peretei. The defection, which took place at Akure City Hall, was facilitated by the Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who urged Ondo people to unite behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration. The Minister, represented by Chief Muyiwa Asagunla, described the mass defection as a sign of growing confidence in the President’s leadership.Receiving the defectors, APC State Chairman, Engr. Ade Adetimehin, commended them for their decision, assuring that the party has enough space for all. He praised President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s leadership, which, he said, have continued to attract development and goodwill across the state.Convener of Nigeria Workstation, Kennedy Peretei, said their defection was driven by the need to align with a more purposeful and coordinated political platform capable of delivering good governance.According to him, “Recently, some opposition figures criticized President Bola Tinubu for trying to foist a single political party on Nigerians. His reply was very straightforward and simple. ‘It is not my business to organize the opposition.’ Is there anything to add?”Peretei, who led the group that included former SDP Deputy Governorship Candidate, Chief (Mrs.) Rachael Ajayi, and former Akoko Northwest Chairman, High Chief Olutope Adebambo, added that the event marked the final collapse of the opposition in Ondo State. He appreciated Minister Tunji-Ojo, Governor Aiyedatiwa, and other APC stakeholders for their support, saying their entry into the party would strengthen the APC ahead of the next election cycle.
