50 bag first class as OAUSTECH graduates 1,452

Fifty graduating students of Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH), Okitipupa, Ondo State, bagged First Class in the 2024/2025 session.Prof. Temi Ologunorisa, OAUSTECH’s Vice-Chancellor disclosed this while addressing journalists on Wednesday at the institution’s campus in Okitipupa. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the 9th graduation ceremony of the institution is billed for March 4, at its multi-purpose auditorium in Okitipupa.Ologunorisa said that out of 1,452 graduates that would be receiving their awards, 594 bagged Second Class Upper Division, 691 made Second Class Lower Division, while 115 graduated with Third Class Division. He said that with sound and qualitative academic records of the institution, both students and graduates could compete favourably with their peers nationally and internationally.“I met the university in comatose but had transformed it from a mere teaching to research institution, and without a record of any strike because staff welfare are priotised, and both teaching and non-teaching staff are performing brilliantly,” he stated. The Vice-Chancellor who assumed office on Feb. 23, 2022, said that he had increased the schools and faculties he met on ground from three to seven with several courses.“I met three faculties on ground and 5,000 students population, but grew schools and faculties to seven and about 12,000 students presently, we also leverage by introducing School of Management Sciences, School of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences, School of Arts and Social Sciences, and School of Information and Communication Technology (ICT).“Our institution is collaborating with leading universities in USA, Asia among others, and our quality of graduates are superb as some of them admitted directly for Ph.D in some leading USA universities,” Ologunorisa said.He added that the institution has contributed largely to the growth of the economy as it was strategically positioned for the blue economy and it’s academic programmes aligned with the states maritime and coastal development potential. The Vice-Chancellor noted that abandoned projects were part of the institution’s challenges, appealing to the Niger-Delta Development Commission and Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Commission to complete their abandoned hostels in order to reduce students of more accommodation challenges. While appreciating, Gov. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Visitor to the Institution, for his good vision, intention and support for education, he appealed for speedy implementation of budgetary provisions for OAUSTECH and other institutions in the state.
