The limitations of Bluetooth technology have prevented high-quality audio at lossless settings from being enjoyed on wireless earphones. With people constantly asking for improved technology, high-quality audio can soon be enjoyed on Samsung devices. This is based on a patent filed by Samsung that replaces Bluetooth connectivity with ultrawide band (UWB) technology. The technology document was filed with the United States Patent Office (USPTO) on January 30. Through it, a pair of earphones will be paired to a device using Bluetooth first. Once the connection to the left and right earphones has been made, the connection will be switched to UWB.UWB has the advantage of having a larger bandwidth because it operates at a frequency of 6.5-9 GHz compared to Bluetooth which uses a frequency of 2.4 GHz. In addition to enabling higher-resolution audio streaming wirelessly, UWB also has an additional range of up to 25 meters. This is further than the approximately 10 meters using Bluetooth.Although the patent has been filed, this does not mean that audio products using UWB will be launched anytime soon. At this point, UWB is only used by Samsung in products like the Galaxy SmartTag to track objects using their flagship phones.
