Mobile Phone Checks Not Randomly Conducted – IGP

News related to mobile phone checks by authorities on suspected individuals enter the next episode when the Inspector-General of Police of Malaysia (IGP), Tan Sri Razarudin Husain came forward to provide further clarification on the matter. This is to avoid any confusion that may arise among the public.Razarudin said that mobile phone checks on individuals will only be conducted in an investigation case. In addition, it is conducted based on existing laws as provided for in the Federal Constitution. His party will also not arbitrarily and randomly conduct checks on people's mobile phones in public places. This means that there must be information, intelligence or reasonable suspicion that a person has committed an offense or crime.He also stressed that the checks will only be conducted by police officers with the rank of Inspector and above. At the same time, they must be carried out properly and respect the rights of each individual. This clarification was made following public concerns regarding the issue of individual rights related to the recent mobile phone checks by the authorities.
