The First AWS Data Center In Malaysia Is Being Developed In Cyberjaya

Lately, Malaysia is seen to be receiving a boom in terms of demand to open various types of data centers and "AI factories" in our country, and one of the largest data companies in the world, Amazon seems to have started developing their first data center in Malaysia.Lowyat.Net has reported that development for the first Amazon Web Services data center in Malaysia has already started in Cyberjaya, and will be located around Persiaran APEC. A sign erected at the location shows details of the project which will apparently be developed in several phases.Phase 1A will present with the opening of a data center building block along with a two-story office along with several other important building units for the logistics use of this data center. The contract to develop this data center appears to have been accepted by the Sunway group. However, even though the site for the construction of this data center has been determined, the construction of this data center has not yet started because the approval for the construction has not yet been received by the contractor. The development of this AWS data center is also not something new. Earlier this year, it was reported that Sunway Construction Sdn Bhd had won the bid for the contract to develop a data center for an MNC company originating from the United States in Malaysia, and the development will start soon which is worth RM747.8 million. It seems that soon we will be able to see the first AWS data center in Malaysia that will house a wide variety of web content, and perhaps even faster access to the video streaming service Prime Video. So far it is still unknown whether the opening of this data center will allow Amazon to finally open their own store for the local market.
