Not only Apple received bad news this morning because Google was also ordered by the Court of Justice of the European Union to pay a fine of €2.42 billion imposed by the European Commission (EC) in 2017. The fine was imposed because Google was found to have engaged in anti-competitive practices. The court said EU law does not punish the existence of dominant companies in the market but prevents any practice to exploit their position as Google has done over competitors. In 2017, the EC found Google to be abusing their dominance when promoting their comparison services their own selling prices in search results and lowering the ranking of competing comparison services. It also denies other companies the opportunity to compete fairly. At the same time Google denies users in Europe the best and most useful service options.
