Snap Introduces New Generation Smart Glasses, Powered by Snap OS
Snap, the company behind the social service Snapchat, today introduced the latest update to their smart glasses, Spectacles. The fifth generation of these smart glasses is offered to developers first, and it is not yet known when it will be offered to general users.Spectacles continues to focus on augmented-reality content, allowing users to wear it and experience the integration between the real and virtual worlds with ease. It is powered by two Snapdragon chips that divide the processing tasks and reduce power consumption, while offering a continuous use time of up to 45 minutes.Snap also says it displays clear and sharp images through the display panel projected onto the glasses, in addition to providing an experience similar to viewing a 100-inch display at a distance of 10 feet.Powering these smart glasses is Snap OS, which is also optimized for both hand and voice-based navigation. This new operating system is also expected to make it easier for developers to develop various content and offerings for users through it.For now, Snap is offering these smart glasses to developers first – allowing them to develop apps, as well as try them out on various things. It is offered to developers in the United States at a subscription of $99 per month.
