Fahmi Fadzil : Meta is the most compliant with Malaysian law while X is the worst

The problem of social media is of particular concern when it comes to the spread of fake news and online crime issues. Malaysia is also not exempt from being involved in the problem. Next, cooperation between various parties is very necessary in dealing with cyber security issues through compliance with national laws.Yesterday the Minister of Communications, Fahmi Fadzil shared the percentage of social media platform operators' compliance with the country's laws with Meta's platform leading the chart as a whole.Instagram at the highest compliance level of 88% followed by Facebook (85%), WhatsApp (79%), TikTok (76%), and Telegram (65%). X/Twitter is at the lowest level of compliance with only 25%.It was also stated that among the laws and acts that were violated include the Personal Data Protection Act 2010 (709), the Anti-Money Laundering Act (AMLA), the Prevention of Terrorism Financing and Proceeds from Illegal Activities 2001 (AMLATFPUAA 2001) and the Communications and Multimedia Act (Act 588).However, Fahmi said, each platform actually still has the issue of online crime and content that endangers people's safety. For example, the scam problem on Facebook alone reached hundreds of millions in losses. Although the compliance rate is high, overall the number of scams that occur on Facebook is too much. It was also informed that issues involving cyberbullying and pornography were detected in the X application.Following on from that, MCMC has also issued letters to each platform and provided feedback on a number of issues raised. At the same time will go to Singapore this Sunday to meet all representatives of social media platforms to discuss the problems faced to improve implementation in the future.
