Popular screenwriter Robert Towne, celebrated for his Oscar-winning script for the 1974 classic 'Chinatown,' died at the age of 89.

Celebrated for his mastery of dialogue, he also contributed (though without credit) to the scripts of “Bonnie and Clyde” and “The Godfather.”

The Oscar-winner also wrote "Shampoo," "The Last Detail," and the first two "Mission: Impossible" movies.

Towne also wrote The Last Detail, Shampoo, and the first two Mission Impossible movies.
