Controversial watchdog asks government to strip Lauren Boebert of guns because of drug use

A controversial watchdog group has written to government authorities asking them to investigate Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) because it claims she applied for gun permits despite allegedly using drugs and alcohol.This week, American Muckrakers PAC sent a letter to various government agencies, including the ATF, the Colorado Department of Public Safety, the Attorney General of Colorado, and the Garfield County sheriff.PAC President David B. Wheeler claimed to have evidence that Boebert used methamphetamine and brandished a weapon — although it was not clear that the lawmaker was thought to be on drugs at the time the gun was displayed.The claims the group makes in the official letters to the government have not been confirmed.Boebert has accused Muckrackers of fabricating stories about her in the past, though those claims are now subject to a defamation suit filed by Wheeler against her."Ms. [Jessica] Spaulding volunteered to me that Boebert was a frequent user of illegal methamphetamine," the letter said. "Ms. Spaulding told me she personally witnessed her, '... hotboxing meth with Jayson (Boebert) at a man camp....'"Spaulding was a former employee and friend of Boebert's, the letter noted."Ms. Spaulding also relayed an episode where guns were drawn and she was threatened by Boebert at a bar in Grand Junction, Colorado, when Spaulding expressed her support for Hillary Clinton in the 2016 election. Boebert said, 'I'll shoot you in your face if you tell me you voted for Hillary Clinton.'"ALSO READ: Neuroscientist explains how Trump and Biden's cognitive impairments are differentWheeler also claimed that Joshua Bartlett of Glenwood Springs "personally observed Boebert using illegal methamphetamine."The letter cited a Business Insider report that said Boebert was cut off from drinking alcohol at a New York event in 2023."Boebert claims to carry a gun with her at all times making her gun licensure subject to revocation under Colorado and United States laws," Wheeler wrote. "Based upon this information, I am respectfully requesting an immediate investigation into these serious allegations, including Boebert's illegal ownership of a firearm while allegedly using illegal drugs, her excessive use of alcohol, her criminal recidivism, and her clear lack of respect for the law," the letter added. "I believe Boebert is a ticking time bomb and she needs to be relieved of her firearms pending an investigation into the actions above. No one is above the law, including a Member of Congress. She must be held accountable for her actions."Earlier this month, Hunter Biden was found guilty of lying about his use of crack cocaine on a federal firearms form.Read the letter here.
