Biden Wants to Ease Tensions in Middle East

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Tensions are rising along the eastern Mediterranean coast, with Israel facing threats from Iran and along its northern border, as its forces push back Hamas in Gaza after nearly 10 months of conflict. In Washington, President Joe Biden is seeking to defuse tensions following the killings of two prominent anti-Israel figures last week. The White House said over the weekend it was committed to freeing the hostages and reaching a ceasefire deal that has so far appeared elusive – but stressed that Washington was ready to respond and had increased its military resources to the region. White House National Security Spokesman John Kirby told Fox News Sunday, “We still believe that a ceasefire is the best way to end this war.
